Greg Smith on working onsite with Bill Rolland

September 15, 2017

Greg Smith, Director at Cisco, describes why he uses Bill Rolland to shoot and edit onsite, especially at events where social media plays an important role.

ACTION ITEM: If you have an event that can benefit from posting videos in near real-time (and, honestly, which wouldn’t?), talk to Bill.

Some (I hope) helpful advice if you ever rent a car while traveling for work or play

ACTION ITEM: Bring some way to use your phone’s GPS when you arrive on location

Now We’re All Sick of Bonnie Tyler

August 21, 2017

Here’re the kids this morning, watching the eclipse (about 81 percent here in the foothills):

Bonus awesome: The light peeking through the oak leaves make dozens of pinhole cameras. I propped up an old whiteboard so you could see the eclipse reflected in those glimpses of light between the leaves:

ACTION ITEM: Don’t look at the sun!

PHX Timelapse

August 9, 2017

The fam recently took a vacation to Flagstaff AZ (way more fun than it sounds), flew back home out of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. As our plane arrived Andy captured this short (18 seconds) time lapse clip on his iPhone.

ACTION ITEM: Look at it. Look. At. It.

New Gear I Got, Part The Third: Aputure LED Lights

July 18, 2017

This is the third of 6 short videos showing some of the new gear I’ve acquired since the end of last year; this one is all about some nifty new wireless Aputure LS-1C LED lamps, ideal for shooting interviews on location. More fun than it sounds 😉

ACTION ITEM: Relax. Hydrate. Meditate.

New Gear I Got, Part The Second: DJIä OSMO

June 14, 2017

This is the second of six brief videos showing some of the new gear I’ve acquired since the end of last year; this one is about the DJI OSMO, a 4K camera mounted on a 3-axis gimbal – essentially a drone mounted on a handle. Plus horsies!

A Day At Play in Western Nevada County

June 5, 2017

I participated in this year’s “A Day At Play” event sponsored by our local newspaper, The Union, in which readers are encouraged to supply photos and videos depicting locals enjoying a day out and about. The final assembled submissions will be printed/posted Saturday July 1. In the meantime, here’s a sneak peak at the photos and 10-second video I submitted:

New Gear I Got, Part The First: Kessler® Second Shooter

May 22, 2017

This is the first of six brief videos showing some of the new gear I’ve acquired since the end of last year; this first one is all about the Kessler Second Shooter device. The video runs a little long (still less than 3 minutes), for which I am deeply and truly sorry, but I’ve made up for it by including an insanely helpful tip at the end about making “Cheat Sheets” for complex equipment you may use only infrequently. Check it.
